Point & Shoot @ MICM
After years of hearing about the Miami Ice Cream Museum, we finally decided to take the time and ride out to Brickell. Naturally, I saw it as a good opportunity to take my point-n-shoot with some fresh film and see if I could capture some decent shots. From what I had seen in the socials, the colors and somewhat-retro feel should make for a unique capsule. And since my girls were going also, figured it would also be a cool collection I could show them years from now.
Overall, the space was really cool and well executed. The color was overwhelming but it’s not much different than my daily views with two girly-girls. As Miami things go, there was quite a crowd so I was really glad I took my point-n-shoot for quick, easy shots. Film-wise, I was using Ektar 400 and was pretty stoked on how I’ve seen that film render. So as one does, I had a vision on how these images would render…light, fun and well…creamy. But I was kindly humbled.
Truthfully, I don’t know if it was the camera, or the film, or just user error…but these really shocked me. What I seemed to have captured was some sort of Backrooms-inspired moodboard. While the colors are nice and creamy, there is a weird darkness and even creepy feel to them. I feel like I’m looking through images from some homicide documentary where horrific crimes were committed in an ice cream-inspired theme house.
Now, I DO like the end result. It was just a bit of a shocker, compared to what I had envisioned. But that’s just how it goes sometimes, specially when shooting film.
